چکیده

This study evaluated the combination interactive effects of G. latifolium leaves and P. nitida seed extracts using a metabolic glucose tolerance test. The plant samples were extracted separately cold maceration their acute toxicities determined. Dose-response tolerant tests both plants done 2 g/kg load monitored over 0 – 1h. A 41% effect isobologram was used to determine needed dose combinations according principle Loewe’s additivity model. pairs combined indices calculated nature interaction. ED41 (GL) (PN) 180 mg/kg 254 respectively. percentage reductions GL:PN (50:160); (100:90); (150:30) 48.23, 50.76 42.99 % Their index be 0.91, 0.91 0.95 respectively - an indication synergistic Findings from this validate use seeds in folkloric medicine. However, combining latifolium: ratios 50:160, 100:90 150:30 gave best with outcome.

Biochemical effects of leaf extracts of Gongronema latifolium and selenium supplementation in alloxan induced diabetic rats

This study evaluated the effect of selenium and extracts of Gongronema latifolium on some biochemical parameters in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Forty male albino rats equally divided into eight experimental groups were used. Two groups served as normal and diabetic control and received placebo treatment. Four diabetic test groups were treated with G. latifolium extract, glibenclamide, combin...

Evaluation of methanol extract of Gongronema latifolium leaves singly and in combination with glibenclamide for anti-hyperglycemic effects in alloxan-induced hyperglycemic rats

OBJECTIVE This study evaluated the anti-hyperglycemic effect of the methanol extract of Gongronema latifolium leaves singly and in combination with an oral hypoglycemic agent; glibenclamide. MATERIALS AND METHODS The plant material was extracted with methanol for 48 h using cold maceration and concentrated in vacuo in a rotary evaporator. The methanol extract of G. latifolium at doses of 200,...

The possible mode of antitussive and expectorant activity of the ethanol seed extracts of Picralima nitida ((Stapf) Th. & H. Durand)

It has been established that Picralima nitida has antitussive effect. This study therefore aimed at determining the possible mode of antitussive and expectorant activity of an ethanolic seed extract of P. nitida (PNE). The muco-suppressant, mast cell stabilization, and the anxiolytic effects of PNE were ascertained using ammonium chloride-induced phenol red secretion in BALB/c mice; compound 48...
